A 19th century hand painted earthenware jug, circa 1832

£58.00

A stunning 19th century pouch-shaped earthenware jug adorned with the prettiest hand painted sprigs of flowers. The moulding on the jug is also superb and includes a beaded band around the rim and the middle of the jug and moulded detailing beneath the spout and handle.

The inscription reads ‘William Gainard Backwell 1832’.

It is a magnificent piece of pottery, ideal as a decorative piece or for use as a vase with a glass placed inside.

There is a short hairline from the rim each side of the spout and some small cracks inside the bottom of the jug, only just visible on the base. Mild wear to the glaze, mainly on the handle.
