A fabulous 19th century hand painted pouch-shaped jug, circa 1840. Possibly Scottish in origin.
The colours are really special, particularly the vibrant cornflower blue border around the rim and on the superbly ornate handle. The floral decoration has been painted in a charmingly naive style that I am always looking for in antique pottery of this kind.
It is in remarkable condition. There is the tiniest bit of wear to the glaze and some crazing but that is all.
