A pair of framed sets of antique botanical lithographs published 1861

£175.00

A pair of triptych-framed sets of three original antique Edward Lowe botanical lithographs of leaves, published in 1861.

The prints are framed in superb hand painted faux bamboo frames with pale lilac mounts, each aperture decorated with pink and blue ink lines. Each print is inscribed with the species name and plate number.

The lithographs are original plates from Edward Lowe’s book, ‘Beautiful-Leaved Plants, being a Description of the Most Beautiful-Leaved Plants in Cultivation in this Country’ published by Groombridge, London in 1861. Edward Joseph Lowe (1825-1900) was a renowned English naturalist with a particular interest in grasses, ferns and shells.

The prints are in good condition. Mild foxing and faint water marks. The central leaf print has a small tear along the top border and there is a thin stain line beside the left mount edge where there has been fractional movement of the print within its mount. The frames are robust and ready to hang.

The prints alone make a wonderful set with the fabulous frames adding to their already enormous appeal.
