SOLD Exceptional, large vintage Welsh 'tapestry' blankets

£0.00

A rare pair of original Welsh ‘tapestry’ blankets, these are very high quality, heavy vintage blankets, 100% wool with lovely thick fringes. The pattern is fabulous and in a particularly lovely colour combination of blue, sage green and lemon yellow. On the reverse is the mirror image of the pattern on a pale cream background giving each side a very different look with contrasting turn-backs. I occasionally come across antique and vintage Welsh blankets but I’ve never seen a matching pair before so I was thrilled to find these!

They are traditional Welsh tapestry blankets, so called because of their geometric design and double-weave construction: they consist of two layers of cloth which are woven together producing contrasting colours on each side of the blanket. The tradition of blanket making in Wales goes back centuries, hand in hand with sheep farming. I’ve photographed them on a double bed and also two singles to give an idea of size.

They are in super condition.

My kitchen shelf is a semi-curated muddle, full of things that bring me so much joy. Above all the clutter sits this exquisite antique woolwork of St Mary Magdelene Church, which I bought from the inimitable @marckitchensmith - I spotted it in his re
